Abstract of the Talk
Categories are a language in which much of modern mathematics is formulated - the category of manifolds with boundary, the category of (unitary/smooth/finite-dimensional) representations of a Lie group, and so on. In my talk, I will draw on sets and vector spaces to illustrate the notion of a category. No prerequisites beyond high school mathematics will be assumed.
