Abstract of the Talk

'e' is one of the most celebrated constants in mathematics. It is relatively new in comparison to 'pi'. Mathematicians used it without realizing its importance. It first got a special symbol 'e' in the hands of Euler. In the talk we will discuss about its origin, its irrational and transcendental nature.
