Mathematics occupies a core intellectual position at NISER, an institution that is striving to be recognized as a Center of Excellence in science education and research in basic sciences.The School of Mathematics was established as a core department of the NISER along with other three Schools from the very beginning of NISER in 2007. It is growing rapidly and is now functioning in full swing. Currently, the school offers masters programme (5yr integrated) [syllabus-old, syllabus-new] in Mathematics along with PhD [Syllabus] and Integrated MSc-PhD [Syllabus] programmes.
The school aims to train people who are oriented towards research and teaching in both basic and advanced areas of Mathematical sciences. Moreover, as all basic sciences need mathematics, we enjoy a special responsibility to teach all these motivated bright students to appreciate the subject the way we do. The School of Mathematics aims to have a vibrant academic and research ambience for faculties, students, and visitors. To fulfill the vision of the NISER and it's School of Mathematics, we look forward to recruit people having excellent research contributions in Mathematical sciences and high motivation for teaching.
Along with teaching, research is a main goal of NISER. The School of Mathematics aims to have a vibrant academic and research ambience for faculties, students, and visitors. Currently, NISER library houses about 10-20 journals in hard copy and has access to more than 100 mathematics journals including MathSciNet, ScienceDirect, and JSTOR.
Currently, the faculties are experts in the research area of functional analysis, harmonic analysis, graph theory, probability theory, statistics, number theory, incident geometry, and cryptology.
The school of Mathematics has a computer laboratory for the students and faculty. All the computers are connected by the NISER's LAN with high speed internet. Various software packages are available in both the NISER and IOP servers.
