Title: Pointwise ergodic theorems and discrete harmonic analysis

Abstract: In these lectures we will discuss the applications of discrete harmonic analysis to pointwise ergodic theorems. We will start from the very beginning, namely we give the proofs of the classical von Neumann's (convergence in norm) and Birkhoff's (pointwise convergence) ergodic theorems. We shall also discuss pointwise ergodic theorems on nilpotent groups, which is my very recent work https://arxiv.org/abs/2112.03322 with Alexandru Ionescu, Ákos Magyar and Mariusz Mirek.
